16 Dec 2023
EventOn December 16, an all-night Hindustani music festival will be held in Mangaluru by the Swaraanand Sangeet Pratishthan, with the goal of revitalising the system. According to a press release from the pratishthan, every raga in Hindustani classical music, particularly the midnight ragas that produce a mysterious mood, has a certain time for singing. Listening to these ragas within their designated singing hours will allow one to truly experience their essence.
Although there used to be a lot of all-night music festivals, their numbers have decreased. In the next three years, the pratishthan, comprising Kavita Shenoy Basty, Damodar Hegde, Bharavi Deraje, Gautam Nayak, Ravikiran Manipal, Divya Dinesh Bhat, and Ramachandra Bhat, intends to host 24 similar events in addition to monthly Hindustani music sessions. Renowned performances will be accompanied by a significant display of local artists.
The event on December 16 will begin at 8:30 p.m. with the inauguration and felicitation of Pt. Somanath Mardur of Dharwad. He will then perform a vocal recital at the BEM High School Auditorium, Car Street, from 9 to 10 p.m.
The next events are as follows: 10.15 p.m. to 11.15 p.m., Pt. Sudhir Nayak, Mumbai, will play a harmonium solo; 11.30 p.m. to 1 a.m., Apoorva Gokhale and Pallavi Joshi will perform a vocal recital; 1.15 a.m. to 2.45 a.m., Abhishek Borker, Pune, will perform a sarod recital; 3.15 a.m. to 4.45 a.m., Kumar Mardur, Dharwad, will perform a vocal recital; and 5. a.m. to 6.30 a.m.
