Students of the Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Technology for Women are building a small satellite for studying ultraviolet radiation and its impacts

The Lal Bahadur Shastri Institute of Technology for Women students in this area are developing a miniature satellite to research UV radiation and its effects. If all goes according to plan, the Indian Space Research Organization's (ISRO) Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) will carry the WESAT, or "Women Engineered SATellite," into space later this year.

The 1 kilogramme "nanosatellite," a project of the institute's Space Club, is marketed as the nation's first satellite entirely overseen by women.

In order to launch WESAT as a co-passenger satellite, the institution has signed a contract with the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe). All private entities' space sector operations are handled by IN-SPACe, which acts as a single point of contact.
