St. Thomas Mount is a holy site that is well-known around the world, significant in history, revered, and popular with tourists. Throughout the 16th and 17th centuries, Portuguese and Armenian ships in the Bay of Bengal used the old church atop St. Thomas Mount as a lighthouse. It's interesting to note that sailors are reported to have saluted the church by firing their cannons after praying for a safe voyage. This five-century-old shrine chapel has undergone renovations and restorations while maintaining its magnificent antiquity.
