The Shirui Lily, the state flower, is honoured during the Shirui Lily Festival. The Shirui Lily, a unique and endangered flower found only in Manipur, is peak blooming during the festival. It is impossible to replant the Shirui lily anyplace else in the globe because it only blooms on top of the Shirui hills in Manipur. During the blossoming season, the Manipur state flower permeates the air with its enticing smell. The main purpose of the festival is to raise awareness of and protect the Shirui Lily, the state flower that is in danger of extinction. People from all clans and tribes get the chance to join together during the festival, tour Manipur's highest hill station, the gorgeous Ukhrul district, and learn more about the Tangkhul Naga tribe that resides there. One of the most fascinating treks in Manipur and an opportunity to see the unique flower is climbing the Shirui hills. For fans of the outdoors and adventure, it is the ultimate treat.
The Shirui festival is a vibrant event that spans 5 days and features a variety of traditional and cultural activities. Live music concerts, folk performances, traditional dances, indigenous games and contests, art and handicraft exhibitions, ethnic food cafes, and a variety of adventure sports, such as camping and bicycling, are among the festival's festivities.
One of the festival's main attractions, Shirock, the musical extravaganza of live music concerts and competition, draws big people from all over the State and even from neighbouring states. Extreme and Nazareth, two international rock bands, have played here.
Activities:
The four-day festival featured live music and cultural performances, traditional dances, folk songs, beauty contests, exhibits, indigenous games, and sporting events. Shirock, 2022, one of the festival's key draws, took place in Bakshi Ground in Ukhrul Town. The festival's main attractions, "ShiRock," a musical spectacle with live music performances and competition, drew people from all across the state and even neighbouring provinces. The final day of Shirock this year featured a performance by the British progressive metal group Monuments. Additionally, the TNL ground served as a second festival location and hosted exhibition football games. It is important to remember that the flower was first discovered in 1946 and named after Dr. Frank Kingdon Ward's wife, Jean Macklin, by an English botanist from the New York Botanical Society.The Royal Horticultural Society of London's Chelsea Flower Show honoured this unique flora with the highest merit medal. The 'State Flower of Manipur' was given to it in 1989.
