The ninth day of the Navarathiri festival is when the Saraswathi Pooja is held in the months of September and October. The festival praises Goddess Saraswathi, the goddess of wisdom, the arts, and education. Hindu legend claims that Goddess Saraswati is one of the Trinity Goddesses, having crafted the potent weapons that slew Mahishasura, the demon king. An important tradition that promotes being grateful for the importance of education and vocation is the Ayudha Puja. The state's citizens celebrate this occasion with considerable passion.
The Arulmigu Koothanur Maha Saraswathi Amman Temple lavishly celebrates the festival. Before being covered with vermilion and sandalwood paste, all of the equipment, machinery, vehicles, and other objects are cleaned, painted, and polished. They are placed close to the deity for pooja and decorated with a flower garland as well. Additionally, the households cook Neyvedhyam food offerings to the deity, such as Payasam Vada Pongal Suyyam and Sundal Organisations participate in the celebrations by having their employees gather equipment needed for their businesses and perform pooja worshipping in the hopes of having a successful business in the upcoming year.
Temples hold additional poojas in addition to the above-mentioned celebrations during this festival. Thiruvarur's Arulmigu Koothanur Maha Saraswathi temple celebrates with special Aradhana Abhishegam and homams.
