The Greater Chennai Corporation has its headquarters and seat in the Ripon Building in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It's an illustration of neoclassical architecture, which combines Corinthian and Ionic design elements. The Ripon Building is a white building that is close to Chennai Central train station.
G.T.S. Harris designed the Ripon Building, which was commissioned in 1909. On December 11, 1909, Viceroy of India Lord Minto lay the foundation stone. Loganatha Mudaliar spent four years building it. The governor general of British India and the founder of local self-government, Lord Ripon, is honoured by the name of the Ripon building. On December 12, 1909, Earl of Minto, the Viceroy and Governor General of India at the time, lay the cornerstone.
