The Arulmigu Ulagalantha Perumal Temple located in the Kallakurichi district was built between the 6th and 9th century AD The temple is one of the 108 Divyadesam temples which are dedicated to Lord Vishnu The main deity of this temple Lord Vishnu is worshipped as Ulagalandha Perumal along with his consort Aandal at this temple Every year during the Tamil calendar month of Panguniin between March and April the temple hosts a 15day Panguni Brahmmotsavam celebration The Panguni Brahmmotsavam festivities start with a holy flag hoisting in the temple along with preparations for special poojas at the temple The festival is dedicated to Goddess Pushpavalli presiding at the temple The celebrations include the adornment of the Goddess in a holy swing known as the Sri Pushpavalli Thayar Oonjal ceremony During this ceremony the Goddess Pushpavalli is adorned with glittering jewellery and vibrant silk robes The idol is rested upon a holy swing decorated with aromatic flowers and the priests worship the deity with several special chants and poojas The occasion is believed to bestow blessings on the devotees with good health and wealth as well as courage to overcome the obstacles in life
