The National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA) is the leading art gallery under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India. In New Delhi, the Government of India opened the main museum at Jaipur House on March 29, 1954. Later, there were branches in Bangalore and Mumbai. In addition to foreign artists, its collection of almost 17,000 pieces by more than 2000 artists includes works by Thomas Daniell, Raja Ravi Verma, Abanindranath Tagore, Rabindranath Tagore, Gaganendranath Tagore, Nandalal Bose, Jamini Roy, and Amrita Sher-Gil. Works as ancient as 1857 are among the oldest that have been conserved here.[1,] The Delhi branch, which has 12,000 square meters of display space, is among the biggest museums of modern art in the world [3].
