The Government Industrial Training Institute (ITI) campus, which is close to the District Collector's Office, hosted the opening of the second edition of the Nagapattinam book festival, "Nagai Sangamam," which was organised by the district administration in collaboration with the Directorate of Public Libraries and the Book Sellers and Publishers Association of South India (BAPASI).
The book festival was launched by Minister for Law S. Regupathy, who also stopped by the vendor booths. Speaking at the occasion, he said that 121 stalls had been set up at the book festival by roughly 50 publishers from all around the State. Over 50,000 books in various genres and languages will be accommodated thanks to comprehensive plans established by the state administration.
Collector Johny Tom Varghese; Nagapattinam MP M. Selvaraj; Superintendent of Police Harsh Singh; N. Gowthaman, Chairman, Tamil Nadu Fisheries Development Corporation; U. Mathivanan, Chairman, Tahdco; Kilvelur MLA V.P. Nagai Mali among others participated in the inaugural function.
Every evening, the organisers intend to hold seminars at which renowned Tamil academics will talk on a variety of subjects. Between 3 and 6 o'clock, school and college students will present their cultural performances. All days up to September 11 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., the booths will be open.
