Madhavpur Fair in Madhavpur, Gujarat on March 30 to April 2

His marriage to Devi Rukmani is one of Shri Krishna's most enduring memories, establishing him as the God of Love. The legendary King Bhishmak, who governed the kingdom of "Vidarbha" (current-day Arunachal Pradesh), was the father of Krishna's wife Rukmani. Rukmani was adamant about getting married to Krishna because she loved him so much. She was compelled to wed Shishupal by her brother, who harboured a deep hatred for Krishna. Rukmani disagreed, but when her father joined in and backed her brother's choice, she wrote a letter to Krishna pleading for him to intervene and threatened to fast until she died if he didn't. In the annals of love, that letter is regarded as the first love letter. On the wedding day with Shishupal.

One of Shri Krishna's most enduring memories is when, with the aid of his sibling Balram, he takes Rukmani from Vidarba and marries her on the day of her wedding to Shishupal in front of numerous kings. devi Rukmani at Madhavpur, a seaside town adjacent to Dwarika and Porbandar (in modern times). At Madhavpur, this eternal act of love is commemorated by a festival in memory of Shri Krishna, Devi Rukmani, and the journey they made from Arunachal Pradesh to Gujarat. The Madhavpur village hosts this yearly fair, which runs for five days beginning on the day of "Ram Navami."

An idol of Krishna is mounted on a brightly coloured chariot, which circles the hamlet in a merry celebration. People dance and wear bright colours to commemorate this occasion. The best aspect of this fair is how it continues changing as time goes on and people work to make it better. It now combines the cultures of eastern and western regions of India without sacrificing the traditional and religious significance of the same. This fusion serves as a real example of "Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat" for the rest of the nation.  The event's most popular component continues to be the display and selling of Gujarati art and crafts as well as handloom and handicraft items from Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, and other North-Eastern states. Exhibition of Visual Art about Krishna and Rukmani One of the major draws for visitors to this fair was a display put together by various Ministry of Culture institutions. Every year, a great deal of fresh and modern concepts are added to this week-long fair while still having the Krishna-Rukmani at its centre. Why you absolutely must go to this fair: This week-long fair is a unique occasion where two diverse areas come together and share love, culture, and the arts. This festival truly honours "Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat."

Being able to exchange energy with so many devotees and followers of Krishna in one place is undoubtedly a once-in-a-lifetime event. The concept itself is so alluring that it invites any soul on this land of "Madhav" to take part in this fair. Additionally, this introduces the art, culture, dance, and music of two regions in one location at the same time.

Activities:

This 4 days-long ‘Utsav’ (Fair) sees vibrant cultural trail of art, dance, music, poetry, story-telling and folk drama from Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and other North-Eastern States with the aim to integrate the rich cultures of the two regions.   In the past enactment of Rukmani-Haran, folk songs and dances related to Krishna- Rukmani have been performed by troupes including special talents from Assam, Manipur, and Arunachal. Lord Krishna gifted ‘Raas’ to Gujarat which is a dance form that celebrates love.
