Since its inception in 1986, the Konark Dance Festival (KDF) has been conducted annually in the picturesque dunes of Konark for the past 32 years. Every year, from December 1st to December 5th, Konark sees an influx of visitors and art aficionados in anticipation of the largest and most spectacular dance festivals in the state. The event, which takes place in an outdoor amphitheatre with a view of Konark's highly regarded Sun Temple, captivates and mesmerises tourists from all over the world. In addition to being one of the state's top tourism attractions, the festival gives Indian classical dancers a stage on which to demonstrate the richness of their country's culture.
The five-day classical dance carnival attracts prominent practitioners and aficionados of nearly all major Indian classical dance styles, such as Odissi, Bharatanatyam, Manipuri, Kathakali, Kathaka, Kuchipudi, and Sattriya.During the festival, a Crafts Mela is hosted at Konark's Urban Haat, where exquisite sculptures and souvenirs manufactured by the region's skilled artisans are on exhibit and for sale, adding to the atmosphere of dance and music. All facets of Odisha's cultural legacy are on display at Chandrabhaga Beach in Konark during the same days as the International Sand Art Festival.
