NewsThe list of undergraduate (UG) programmes that will be tested in the four-year degree style this academic year has been released by Kerala University. At the Karyavattom campus, the university's teaching divisions will provide the B.A. with honours in Languages and Communication Skill, the B.A. with honours in Political Science and Public Administration, and the B.Sc. with honours in Life Sciences. The four-year B.Com (Professional) programme will be offered by the University Institute of Technology (UIT), which is directly run by Kerala University. The decision was announced by Mohanan Kunnummal, the vice chancellor in charge of the university, during the vice chancellors' meeting on Friday, which was presided over by Higher Education Minister R. Bindu.
Prof. Kunnummal stated during a news conference held here that the institution has started the process of preparing the programme curriculum. The B.Sc. programme is presently taught at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru, whereas the BA courses are being taught at Delhi University and Banaras Hindu University (BHU). While creating the course materials, reference would be made to the current curricula of such illustrious schools, he noted. Although the curriculum will be interdisciplinary, the parent department for the courses has not yet been chosen.
In order to begin four-year degree programmes this year, the university has requested expressions of interest (EoI) from affiliated institutions that have been providing undergraduate courses and the related postgraduate courses for at least ten years. Colleges that meet the qualifying requirement have until June 20 to respond. On July 6, the university will host a workshop to develop a plan for the complete launch of four-year degrees the following academic year. The Higher Education Minister will launch the initiative, and board of studies members and topic specialists will be there.
The degree certificate supposedly held by Kerala Students Union (KSU) leader Ansil Jaleel is a fake, according to Prof. Kunnummal. The Controller of Examinations' investigation discovered that, contrary to what several media outlets had said, no degree certificate had been awarded with the specific registration number. He further stated that the university will take legal action to prevent the use of such fictitious papers created in its name.
