The Karnataka cabinet has approved Phase 3A of Namma Metro, also known as the Red Line, marking a significant boost to Bengaluru’s metro network. The 36.59-km corridor will connect Sarjapur in the southeast to Hebbal in the north, improving citywide connectivity.
As reported by Deccan Herald, the project, estimated at ₹28,405 crore, will now be sent to the union cabinet for approval. With the central government holding a 50% equity stake in Namma Metro, the approval is anticipated by December 2025 or sooner. The project aims to be operational by 2031, with a completion timeline of five and a half years post-approval.
Once Phase 3A is complete, Bengaluru’s metro network will extend to 258.79 km. The state cabinet’s decision allows the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to start pre-construction work, such as land acquisition, utility shifting, and design planning.
The new line will include 28 stations—17 elevated and 11 underground—with major interchanges at Iblur, Agara, Dairy Circle, KR Circle, and Hebbal. At ₹776 crore per kilometer, this is the most expensive phase in Namma Metro’s history.
