Located in Mylapore, Chennai, the Kapaleeshwarar Temple is devoted to the deity Shiva. The temple, which was constructed in the seventh century CE, is a prime example of Dravidian design.
The two most well-known shrines in the temple are those of Kapaleeshwarar and Karpagambal. There are several halls in the temple complex. In addition to four annual festivals, the temple offers six daily rituals that take place at different times between 5:30 a.m. and 10 p.m. The most important event at the temple is the Aṟupatimūvar festival, which is held during the Tamil month of Panguni as part of the Brahmotsava celebrations.
The Tamil Nadu government's Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department is responsible for the temple's upkeep and management.
