Every year, Gujarat celebrates more than 200 festivals. The International Kite Festival (Uttarayan) is one of the biggest festivals celebrated. The festival of Kite is a uniquely Gujarati phenomenon when the skies over most cities of the state are seen with kites from dawn till dusk. On this day almost all normal work is shut down in the state and everyone takes to the rooftops and roadways to fly kites and compete with their neighbors.
At the festival, the Kites of all shapes and sizes are flown, and the main competition is to battle nearby kite-flyers to cut their strings and bring down their kites. Kite flyers and enthusiasts from G20 nations along with other participants from across the world will participate in the International Kite Festival in Ahmedabad. At the International Kite Festival, there will be a pavilion displaying the history of kites and kite-flying traditions from around the world.
