In New Delhi, next to Parliament House, is the ancient Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib. After Sikh military leader Baghel Singh (1730–1802) invaded Delhi on March 11, 1783, it was constructed in 1783. During his brief tenure in the capital, various Sikh religious temples were built. This one commemorates the location of the ninth Sikh Guru's cremation, Guru Tegh Bahadur, who was killed as a martyr in November 1675 for assisting Hindu Pandits in Kashmir on the orders of the Islamic Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. It took 12 years to create the Gurudwara Sahib, which is located close to the historic Raisina hamlet near Raisina Hill, at Pandit Pant Marg. A mosque had been constructed close by before that. The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee also has its headquarters in the Gurdwara Rakabganj sahib.
