News EventA millet festival is being held on Friday at the CSIR-National Institute for Interdisciplinary Science and Technology (NIIST) in Pappanamcode by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India-Southern Region (FSSAI). The "Eat Right Millet Mela" is being put on in association with NIIST and the Keralan government's department of food safety. The one-day event includes expert discussions, a "Eat right talent hunt," and an exhibition and sale of millet.
Veena George, minister of health, will open the celebration. V.R. Vinod, the commissioner of food safety, will preside. For the purpose of highlighting and promoting millets, which have a significant nutritional impact, the UN designated 2023 as the "International Year of Millets." The event is being put on by the FSSAI, the nation's top food regulator, as part of a national initiative to become India the world's leading producer of millets.
According to the FSSAI, the event aims to empower individuals to incorporate millets into their diets and make good food choices. It would give interested parties, such as the government, food industry leaders, and consumer advocacy groups, a platform to educate the public about the value of millets.
