NewsPrime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone for NLC India Limited's (NLCIL) 2400MW coal-based Ultra Super Critical Pit Head Thermal Power project at Talabira in the Jharsuguda district of Odisha, on Saturday. The project is anticipated to cost ₹27,212 crore.
This is the largest greenfield Pithead Thermal Power Station that has been planned for the nation in recent memory, according to a news statement from NLCIL. Utilising the advantages of a pit head project, the coal for Phase I of the project will be supplied via an environmentally friendly conveyor system from the nearby Talabira II and III operating mines of NLCIL, negating the need for transportation expenses.
Out of all the thermal power plants in the nation, the project will provide electricity at one of the lowest rates. According to NLCIL, the first phase of the project will supply Odisha and other States with around 1,787 crore units of electricity. The second phase of the project, which would have 800MW of capacity, has been planned with an expenditure above ₹8,000 crore.
Together with increased efficiency, the power plant will use the most recent environmentally friendly designs, solid waste management, effluent treatment technologies, and 10% eco-friendly biomass co-firing. The initiative will greatly accelerate socioeconomic growth and aid in the creation of both direct and indirect job possibilities.
According to NLCIL, the project's intrinsic advantages make it a prime example of Atmanirbhar Bharat and align with the Prime Minister's goal of building additional pit head power plants.
