First competitive kambala - slush track buffalo race, to be held at the Palace Grounds in Bengaluru from November 25

EventThe inaugural competitive "kambala" (slush track buffalo race) is scheduled to take place at the Palace Grounds in Bengaluru over two days starting on November 25 and is anticipated to attract up to 160 pairs of buffaloes from the coastal area.
As to N. Vijayakumar Kanginamane, coordinator of the referee wing of Kambala Committee of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, and Kasaragod (Kerala) districts, the couples would set off on their trek from Uppinangady in Dakshina Kannada on November 23 at about 9.30 a.m.
Six categories will compete: naegilu kiriya and hiriya, hagga kiriya and hiriya, adda halage, and kane halage.
The double slush track's running distance, according to Mr. Kanginamane, is 125 metres.
The owner of the winning buffalo pair would receive two pawan gold and ₹1.5 lakh in cash as the tournament champion. A gold medal will be awarded to the victorious jockey. Each participant pair's owner will receive a shield in addition to ₹50,000 as rent for the vehicle that brought their buffaloes to the function.
