District Institutes of Education and Training - DIET

District Institutes of Education and Training (DIET)s were set up as institutes at the district level after the National Policy of Education 1986 in approximately 500 districts of India for the Universalisation of Elementary Education and to improve the quality of elementary education. Pre-service teacher education and In-service teacher training are the major responsibilities of all DIETs.

DIETs in Delhi are run by the Govt. of  Delhi which conducts a two-year Diploma Course in Elementary Teacher Education where most students are senior secondary pass out at entry level from all streams of +2 education, heterogeneous in terms of culture, language, and intellectual level. There are 100 students at DIET (North East), Bhola Nath Nagar, Shahdara, Delhi.
