The Charminar is a monument situated on the east bank of Musi River in Hyderabad, constructed in 1591. The landmark is a symbol of Hyderabad and is officially incorporated in the emblem of Telangana. The Charminar's long history includes the existence of a mosque on its top floor for more than 425 years. Charminar is also a site of numerous festival celebrations, such as Eid-ul-adha and Eid al-Fitr, as it is adjacent to the city's main mosque, the Makkah Masjid.
The Charminar is a square building with 20 meters on each side. One of four imposing arches, one on each of the four sides, faces a central point and opens straight onto the roadway in front of it. A beautifully designed 56-meter-tall minaret with a double balcony is located at each corner. A bulbous dome with delicate, petal-like patterns at its base atop each minaret. The four fluted minarets of the Charminar are integrated into the main building, in contrast to the minarets of the Taj Mahal. 149 narrow stairs go to the higher level. The layout of the balconies and balustrades, as well as the building's abundance of stucco ornamentation, are other notable features.
The building's components, which collectively weigh around 14,000 tonnes, include granite, limestone, mortar, and crushed marble.20] Upon the fort's first opening, the monument was designed with such proportion that every one of its four opulent arches, each facing a busy royal ancestral street, allowed a view of the whole, bustling city of Hyderabad. A little fountain for ablution before praying at the Charminar mosque is located in the centre of a vazu, or water cistern.
