One of the most significant Shakti shrines and a popular tourist destination in the state and Keonjhar district is Maa Tarini Pitha Ghatagaon. After the victory over Kanchipuram in 1603 AD, it is said that Goddess Tarini travelled to Keonjhargarh with Gobinda Bhanja, King of an ex-princely state, who had been appointed as Commander by Gajapati, King of Puri. However, Goddess Tarini chose to stay at Ghatagoan, a less well-known location.
