The Chakma community celebrates Biju, a vibrant festival, for three days to signify the start of a new year.Seven additional ethnic groups in Tripura also participate in the festival: the Marma, Tangchangya, Tripuris, Mro, Khumi, Khiyang, and Chak. The celebration is known as "Sangraig" by the Marmas, "Bishu" by the Tangchangya, "Baisuk" by the Truipis, and "Bihu" by the Ahmia.
An ancient performance called Biju was once staged to ensure that the start of a new farming season would result in a healthy harvest. Today, it offers a chance to commemorate and highlight the Chakma people's vast cultural diversity. The festival's primary goal is to educate the younger generation about the culture and traditions of the Chakma group.
Activities:
On the first day-Phool Biju, people pay floral tributes to the nearby rivers.
The second day-Mul Biju, is celebrated with the performance of traditional songs and dances, culminating with the famous Biju dance.
On the third and final day, known as Gotche Potche Biju, elders of the community are honoured with an elaborate feast and renew marriage vows with their spouses.
Different Cultural programs including Chakma Dance,Marma Chata Nach, Jolkeli etc. are performed during the festival to highlight the indigenous peoples distinct cultural heritage.
