One of the oldest holidays observed in the state of Karnataka, the Karaga festival, lasts 11 days. Karnataka's rich culture and religious traditions are vividly shown. The renowned Dharmaraya Swamy Temple in Bangalore is the location of this amazing festival. It is celebrated annually in the Chaitra month (March/April) of the Hindu calendar. But in addition to its connection to the Thigala community, the festival's stunning celebration draws tourists from all around the city. Even though there are many rituals taking place during these days, the grand procession is the festival's highlight.
The word "Karaga" refers to a clay pot that contains the goddess idol and a flowery pyramid. Without touching the bearer, the Karaga is positioned on their head. The bearer has bracelets, a mangal-sutra, and vermillion on his forehead. He is also costumed as a lady. The history of the Karaga celebration can be found in the Mahabharata epic. It praises Draupadi as the Goddess Shakti and presents her as the ideal lady.
