Baisakhi marks the new year for Sikhs and will be observed on April 14

According to the Sikh calendar, the new year officially begins on Baisakhi. The third Sikh Guru, Guru Amar Das ji, selected Baisakhi as one of the three major holidays to be observed. This is just one magnificent aspect of this celebration. The Khalsa Panth was founded on Baisakhi in 1699 by Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji, the tenth Sikh Guru.

Additionally, farmers start harvesting the Rabi crops during the month of Baisakhi. For the local farmers, it is a big deal, and they celebrate it as a way to give thanks to the gods and the elements of nature.

Seeing Punjab at its happiest and most joyous self-preparation for the festival when one awakens on a bright Baisakhi day morning is like standing on a fortune. Gurudwaras are decorated well in advance, and men get ready and practise their martial arts. During this festive time, craftsmen from all across the State and nation travel to Punjab to market their handicrafts. Baisakhi celebrations are meant to bring people together in a spirit of joy and unity. Men, women, and children all dress in their favourite traditional costume on this day.

One can reserve a Farm stay or a Homestay in Punjab and celebrate with the locals. Punjabis are excellent hosts. Punjab tourism provides a variety of possibilities from which to choose for the ideal stay. You can eat Kada Prasad and Guru ka Langar at the Golden Temple if you happen to be in Amritsar. Watch the Nagar Kirtan and the skill of the Punjab Lions. Don't forget to join the locals in dancing to the beat of Gidda and Bhangra.
