The event will begin in Kargil Ladakh on multiple dates in 2023, beginning on April 8 at Garkone Batalik, April 16 at Hardass/ Shilikchey, and April 17 at Karkitchoo/ Channigund. The apricot, known as "Chuli/Halmann" in Ladakhi, was first brought to the dry region of Ladakh by Chinese traders travelling along the Silk Road more than a century ago. The fruit is now an essential component of Ladakh's culture, history, and economy in the twenty-first century. One of the biggest producers of apricots in India is the freezing desert thanks to the apricot plant's exceptional tolerance and stability. After Ladakh's lengthy and arduous winter, the bloom of the apricot flower marks the start of summer.
Apricots are frequently offered as desserts in Ladakh, especially during traditional celebrations. Ladakh apricots can be divided into two groups based on the flavour of their kernels, with the fruits with a bitter kernel being referred to as Khante and the fruits with a sweet kernel being referred to as Ngarmo, according to a study released by the Korean Society for Horticultural Science. Settlements in Ladakh's western region are draped in a white carpet of flowers during this time. The primary features of this festival to promote tourism in this region include the viewing of apricot blossoms, cultural program, display of apricot and other local products, handloom and handicraft products, farming activities, and food exhibition.
