All India Taekwondo Championship will be held from February 24-26 at Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi

EventIn celebration of 50 years of Korea and India diplomatic relations, the Korean Cultural Centre India and the Sports Authority of India are co-hosting the All India Taekwondo Championship with Korean National Sport University. Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Anurag Thakur will be the chief guest for the event and the President of Korea National Sports University Yong-gyu Ahn will be the Guest of Honour.
The All-India Taekwondo Championships between the two countries will be held for three days from February 24-26 at the KD Jadhav Indoor Wrestling Hall, Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi. The event is scheduled to start from 10.30 am tomorrow.
Jae-bok Chang, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of India and Sang-hwa Lee, Ambassador and Deputy Minister for Public Diplomacy will represent the Korean side.Sujata Chaturvedi, Sports Secretary, Government of India and Sandip Pradhan, Director General, Sports Authority of India will also attend the event.
The three-day event will be completed in two parts: Poomsae and Sparring, called Kyorugi. The sparring, Kyorugi division is divided according to the competition rules of the World Taekwondo Federation, in players` age and weight, and the Poomsae division will be divided into men's and women's divisions only.
Only elite Taekwondo players registered in 79 regional centers and regional training centers of Sports Authority of India will participate in the sparring category, and the Poomsae category is open to the public, anyone with a Kukkiwon-certified Taekwondo dan certificate can participate.
The 10 Kyorugi and 2 Poomsae winners, who will win gold medals in each category, will visit Korea National Sport University with the support of the Korean government and receive an education and training program for about 3 weeks from the best professors as prize.
Korean Cultural Centre India recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between South Korea and India. The cultural event commemorating India’s 74th Republic Day and Korea’s New Year’s Day, Seoul was celebrated on January 22.
