NewsThe 46th edition of the Kolkata International Book Fair has begun, and residents of Kolkata are making the most of the International Book Fair. It has been organised on the theme of ‘Spain’, celebrating the famous Spanish painter, Pablo Picasso.
Spain has invited the organisers of Kolkata International Book Fair (KIBF), to participate in the Liber Book Fair in Madrid in 2025. They also want to invite India as the focal theme country there. As India has been invited as the theme country in Madrid, Kolkata's iconic international book fair will be showcased there for its unique identity.
The book fair will be held in 2025 and the theme country of the book fair is India. And Kolkata book fair will be part of it.
Christina Linares, publisher of a Spanish publication house, is in Kolkata now for KIBF. She said, "Liber Book Fair is big for us. It is going to be held in 2025 in Madrid. India has been invited there. That book fair is completely different from this edition of the Kolkata Book Fair. People come and only buy books there. But if the Kolkata book fair gets a place there, it will be a great opportunity for us to see how literature is a celebration in Kolkata. After all, Rabindranath Tagore is very popular in Spain too".
This year the book fair commenced on January 31 and will continue till February 12. Two weeklong festivities of books and literature will be going on at the Central Park Mela ground, Saltlake.
From this year, the guild has decided to take Kolkata Book Fair beyond Bengal. They are going to organise a smaller version of the Kolkata Book Fair at Pragati Maidan in Delhi. The guild authority said it will be held at the end of this year.
